Nairobi, May 8, 2018–Buoyed by his victory in the third round of the Africa Rally Championship (ARC) in South Africa last month, Kenya and Africa champion Manvir Baryan confirmed today that he will compete in the Zambia International Rally, June 22-24.
However, full assault of a proper title defence will depend on his performance in Zambia, said Manvir who is tied on 25 points with compatriot Carl Tundo and Gary Chaynes of Ivory Coast.
“I will take one event at a time,” said Baryan who is navigated by Briton Drew Sturrock in a Skoda Fabia r5.
“My campaign in Africa will depend on a self driven goal of winning each event I enter and make proper realistic calculations of defending my title at some point because it is very expensive,” added Manvir.
Victory in Zambia will increase his chances of winning in the eight rounds series with four more rallies in Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania and Madagascar after Zambia.
The ARC is divided in two regions – North which has Ivory Coast, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and the South with rallies in Tanzania, Zambia, South Africa and Madagascar.
The Zambia International Rally is this year sponsored by Gomes Haulage Limited. It will cover a total distance of approximately 353.39 km of which 218.54 km will be competitive mileage.
Action will be around the forests of Zaffico in Ndola. The rally begins on Friday with a ceremonial flag off in Ndola at 16:00 hrs and on Sunday, organisers say.
