Nairobi, March 14, 2018– Medisurge, a local medical equipment supplier, delivered World Rally Championship (WRC) standard cutting edge equipment to be used in emergencies during the 2018 ARC Safari Rally including Thomas Advanced Life Trauma Support kit which was used during the visit by President Barrack Obama in 2015.
Dr Alex Gikandi, a director of the firm, said the kit complete with oxygen cylinder, though in a back pack can handle any sort of an emergency and is considered a standard in life saving situations anywhere in the world.
“When the Americans medical inspectors visited our showroom ahead of President Obama’s visit, they immediately assigned us place the kit at Kasarani Indoor Arena and UN headquarters where the President delivered public speeches,” said Gikandi.
One kit will be put in the medical evacuation helicopter during the three-day Safari and two others at the Service Parks at Sopa Lodge, Naivasha and Soyambu ranch. Also in the chopper is an advanced equipment known as Automatic Defuderator to manage a sudden heart-attack situation.
“We are not taking anything to chances,” said Chief Safety Officer Nazir Yakub who who thanked Medisurge for donating first aid kits for every car in the Safari for free.
The firm delivered the medical equipment worth ksh2 million bought by the government and loaned an advanced hydraulic extrication devices which can cut through metal and peel off glass.
The equipment will be operated by local stewards who were trained two years ago by FIA appointed experts from South Africa under a grant to bring in sync local organizational acumen to WRC standards.
Yakub said crucially the organisers are following the FIA Safety guide to the letter
